Amarnath Yatra is one of the most pious journeys according to Hindu Mythology. Hindu devotees cover a difficult journey of 42 kilometers (around 26 miles) on foot from Pahalgam, a small town near Srinagar to the holy Amarnath cave. This cave is situated at 3,888 meter from sea level at the end of Lidder valley. It takes 4 to 5 days to complete this journey although there is a smaller alternative route from the town of Baltal.
